Poems, Second Series

The second book Rachel received from Roland DeVere in Lone Point is described in such detail that we're very sure Grace was describing a book from her own bookshelf! “She turned to the other book, a daintily bound volume all in pale green and gold. The paper was thick and creamy, the print clear, and the whole appearance of the book exquisite. Rachel loved the feeling and the look of such a book. It was poetry. She opened at random. One poem was styled ‘Day’s Parlor.’ She read, and it seemed to her that that day had been fashioned in just the way described.” This poem appears in Poems – Emily Dickinson – Second Series, a book that Grace received on her birthday in 1892.
